Find out why your EA's trades lost.

Drop in your MT5 backtest report to see whether losing trades are an exit problem or an entry problem, whether your stop fits what winners needed, and which market conditions lose money. Files are processed in this browser and never uploaded.

How to save these files from MT5

What the analyser shows

  • Exit problem or entry problem: losing trades are split into those that were in profit first and those that went wrong right away. Many of the first means work on the exit; many of the second means work on the entry.
  • Stop distance check: how far winners went against you at worst, compared with your stop, so you can see whether the stop is too wide or cutting off trades that would have won.
  • Results by market regime: uptrend, downtrend or range just before entry, and where the EA makes and loses money.
  • Exit reasons, holding time, hour of day: take profit vs stop loss vs other, winners vs losers holding time, and hours where losses cluster.

The ideas behind it are in the guides on MFE and MAE and market regimes.

How to save the files from MT5

1. Backtest report (HTML)

  1. Run the backtest in the Strategy Tester.
  2. Right-click the Backtest results tab, choose Report, and save it as HTML.

2. Bar CSV (optional)

  1. Open View → Symbols (Ctrl+U) and choose the Bars tab.
  2. Pick the same symbol, M1 or M5, and the same period, then click Request.
  3. Click Export Bars to save a CSV.

A CSV from elsewhere works too if it has date, open, high, low and close columns. Use the same clock as the report (MT5 server time).

Assumptions and limits

  • The order of prices inside a bar is unknown, so MFE and MAE are approximated from bar highs and lows. On the exit bar, the move is capped at the stop or target price. Finer bars are more accurate.
  • Partial closes and reversals are split into separate trades, closing the oldest position first.
  • Only MT5 Strategy Tester HTML reports are supported for now, not MT4.

FAQ

Are my files uploaded?

No. The report and the bar file are read and analysed inside your browser. Only usage counts, such as how many trades were analysed, are sent. If you sign in and choose to save, the per-trade numbers (times, prices, profit) are stored in your account. The file itself is still never sent.

Which files work?

HTML reports saved from the MT5 Strategy Tester, in any language. MT4 reports and account history reports aren't supported yet.

Do I need the bar CSV?

No. The report alone gives win rate, exit reasons, holding times and results by hour. Each trade's MFE and MAE and results by market regime need bars for the same symbol.

Which timeframe should the bars be?

The finer the better; M1 or M5 is ideal. The order of prices inside a bar is unknown, so on the exit bar the move is capped at the stop or target price.

How are market regimes decided?

ADX(14) on 1-hour bars just before entry: 25 or above is a trend (direction from +DI vs −DI), below 25 is a range. Finer bars are resampled to 1 hour first.

Does the result predict future performance?

No. This tool analyses past backtest results. It does not give investment advice or recommend trades.
